There are many different types of coffee table some of which are made from a variety of materials.

Some years ago there was a fashion for copper topped coffee tables where the base of the coffee table was made from hard wood and the top from beaten copper.

Some contemporary coffee tables, particularly those with an art deco flavor, are made entirely of metal. These coffee tables come in different shapes with the most popular being square or round.

Coffee tables are used to complement someone’s décor rather than to set the scene. Many contemporary coffee tables are made from different types of metal, and the most expensive ones are made from beaten silver. Some have silver colored legs and a highly polished top.

Metal coffee tables can also be made from iron.

Iron is a metal that was used in all kinds of furniture both in the middle ages and in Roman times, this was largely because the metal was long lasting and the furniture structurally sound.

Craftsmen are able to heat the iron and bend and shape it to whatever is required. So you can get oblong tables, square and round tables all made from iron.

Handcrafted iron tables with decorative legs are very fashionable in some areas. Some of them have intricate designs in the metal and come in many different shapes.

Some manufacturers make coffee tables from brass, or from copper with brass accents. Coffee tables that have a glass top will often have a metal frame and metal legs.

Some expensive coffee tables have a highly polished metal frame and legs and a smoked glass top.

You can also get portable metal tables which fold up when they are not needed or if you want to put them in another room.

Metal coffee tables tend not to rust because they usually have rust resistant graphite powder finishes and are easily cleaned.
