Japanese Coffee Table
Looking for a Japanese Coffee Table? The Japanese are famous for sitting cross legged on the floor to eat and for this they need low tables. The coffee table has long been a favorite in Japan and some of these tables are beautifully crafted. Some of these are in what is known as the Tribeca style with wooden legs and a contoured top made from glass. The more traditional Japanese style coffee tables are often large, square very low tables. The base on these tables is solid and they usually come in dark colors. The Japanese also use bamboo in their furniture making as it is so plentiful in that country. Some Japanese coffee tables are made from bamboo and these are becoming very popular in both America and the UK. Bamboo tables can make good conservatory or patio furniture. Japanese tables that are made from bamboo are very strong and durable, sometimes the bamboo is woven with a pattern in it and this makes the tables very attractive to look at. Salvaged wood in the form of centuries old Korean flooring is used to make low tables in Japan, the boards are some three inches thick which makes them extremely hard wearing. One thing that the Japanese are famous for and that is the shiny, low, black lacquered table – which we would use as a coffee table in the west. The shiny black lacquer often has incredible designs painted on the table top. In Japan these tables would not be used for holding books or ornaments, although they are often used for eating purposes or for tea drinking. The Japanese style coffee table does come in different styles and materials although in many Japanese homes the décor and styling is very simple – usually black or dark furniture against white or very light background. If you do decide on a Japanese coffee table then make it a centre piece rather than just another piece of furniture.
