And it doesn’t matter what style you seek.

You can find green glass that is cut or etched to match a traditional or modern décor.

Is The Green Glass Coffee Table Right For You?

Green Glass Coffee Table The simple answer is yes…

The versatility in home decorating these days allows for almost any choice of furnishings. And a green glass coffee table would be an excellent addition to any home or office, no matter what the style.

And you can get gorgeous green glass tables for as little as $200, depending on the style.

But before you decide which design to pick you should remember to choose your table based on the thickness of the glass top. Always make sure the top to the table is at least a quarter of an inch thick.

At this thickness the glass table top is more durable and practical for everyday use.

How Do They Make The Glass Green?

In 17th Century England, the glass derived its dark brown or green tint from impurities that were present when the glass was formed.

An example of this early glass would be ‘black bottle glass’. The darkness of this glass was due to thee effects of the iron impurities in the sand used to make the glass.

Also contributing to the dark color was the sulfur of the smoke of the burning coal used to melt the glass.

But it’s not only impurities that color glass. Glass can be colored by purified metal salts or minerals that are introduced into the glass during the creation process.

There are several different types of this colored glass, some of the most popular being: uranium glass (glass that glows in the dark) and ruby glass.

Impurities are not always added though.

Sometimes in order to prepare glass to be colored or to make it crystal clear, impurities have to be removed.

Impurities are often removed with substances called decolorizers. Two common decolorizers are manganese dioxide and cerium oxide.

And there are many different types of special effects that can be applied to glass.

The overall appearance of glass can be changed, and one example would be Iridescent glass.

Iridesecent glass is made by adding metallic compounds or by spraying the glass with stannous chloride and reheating it in a reducing atmosphere. Many ancient glasses appear iridescent from the reflection of light off of many layers of weathering.

Here is a list of the different types of glass pigments*:

• iron oxides = greens, browns
• manganese oxides = deep amber• gold chloride = ruby red
• selenium compounds = reds
• carbon oxides = amber/brown
• mix of manganese, cobalt, iron = black
• antimony oxides = white
• uranium oxides = yellow green
• sulfur compounds = amber/brown
• copper compounds = light blue, red
• tin compounds = white
• lead with antimony = yellow
